How to Make Ghanaian Groundnut Soup

This delicious soup is known by many different names to Africans. For example, Ghanaian Peanut Soup, Peanut Butter Soup and Nketekwam. This dish is a popular dish of people in Ghana and West Africa. One of the reasons it's called groundnut soup is because its main ingredient is peanuts. Many African people live in Dubai, and many want to get familiar with the lifestyle and food of their culture. How to Cook Peanut Soup Recipe - Easy to Cook at Home

The amount of ingredients in the recipe can be more or less based on your preference. If you want the soup thicker or lighter, it will depend on how much seasoning you use. But these are the ingredients you need to cook.



  • Groundnut (Peanut)
  • Beef, chicken or fish (as your favorite)
  • 4 relatively large tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • Garlic and a medium-sized ginger
  • Spices like – Scotch bonnet pepper, thyme and bay leaf

How to cook this recipe - Yummy Groundnut Soup

There are many ways to cook this dish. Among the many processes, I found this method to be the easiest. So, let's learn the recipe for almond soup.

Step 1: First, wash and cut your favorite fish or meat. Season the fish or meat pieces nicely with a little salt and pepper powder. Then, fry the meat in your favorite saucepan with a small amount of cooking oil. Once fried, add chopped onions, garlic, ginger and bay leaves. Now add water to boil the meat and cover till it is cooked.

Step 2: When the meat is cooked, add 1/2 slice of tomato. You can also add your vegetables at this point if you want. After adding tomatoes and vegetables, cover again until cooked. Now blend the remaining tomato, onion, ginger, garlic and egg into a light puree and paste. On the other hand, when the meat and vegetables are cooked, put a small amount of broth in another container.

Step 3: Now pour the peanut butter paste into another saucepan and stir gently. When the saucepan is hot, add a very small amount of water to the peanut paste. When it turns dark brown, add vegetable puree to it. After adding the puree, keep stirring until it is well combined.

Step 4: Now add cooked fish or meat to this mixture. Add water as you want it thinner or thicker, and keep stirring. Finally, let it boil on a medium flame for 15-20 minutes when you see oil floating on top, then remove it from the stove. Check if it is correct before adding salt. Anyway, your favorite Ghanaian peanut soup is finally ready to serve.
